Four More Cases of Blood Clotting Related to AstraZeneca Vaccine Reported in Quebec

Four more cases related to blood clotting after administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been reported in Quebec. Since the start of the vaccination campaign, Quebec has reported eight cases of clotting after the administration of AstraZeneca.

On Thursday, the provincial health ministry released a statement assuring that the persons are inappropriate care. The three are in hospital and not in critical condition according to the health ministry.

Cases of thrombosis are linked to the administration of AstraZeneca as per the data by the ministry. The cases of clotting are rare, about one in 100, 000 vaccine administered as a first dose.

The health ministry says that the risk is much lower after the first dose, about one in a million vaccines. So far, Quebec has administered 500, 000 doses of AstraZeneca.

The ministry urges people who have the vaccine and are experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling legs, stomach pain, severe headache, or blurred vision to consult a doctor or the provincial health line.

Quebec has received 148, 000 doses of AstraZeneca.The government says the delivered doses are reserved only for the second dose for Quebecers aged 45 and above.
