Tragedy has struck the Brown family, with the former NFL player, Sergio Brown, reported missing in the wake of the shocking discovery of his mother’s body near their suburban Chicago home. The Maywood Police Department received reports from distressed family members who had been unsuccessful in reaching Sergio or his mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Brown.

On venturing to the home, the authorities discovered Myrtle’s lifeless body close to a creek on Saturday. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently confirmed that Myrtle Brown had succumbed to injuries sustained in a brutal assault, ultimately determining the cause of death as a homicide.

In a desperate plea for help in the search for his missing brother, Nick Brown took to Instagram on Sunday. “My brother Sergio is still missing,” he wrote. “If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home.”

A residential street in Maywood, nestled approximately 15 miles west of the cozier confines of the Loop, was peppered with police tape as the authorities investigated the distressing case. Neighbor Carlos Cortez expressed his shock to regional news outlet WBBM, “Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I’m hoping she’s in the right place and she’s with God. I never would’ve expected this in a million years.”

Sergio Brown, now 35 years old, carved out quite a career for himself in professional football. Before gracing the NFL with the New England Patriots in 2010 as an undrafted rookie, Brown demonstrated his athletic prowess at Notre Dame. In the following seven years, he played for the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills in addition to the Patriots.

“Mom always told me, ‘tough times don’t last’ and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope,” Nick shared in his heartfelt message online. “Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won’t let you down.”

As the unsettling saga continues to unravel, Nick urged anyone with potential information about his brother’s whereabouts to contact Maywood police directly. He implored the public against approaching the family home, assuring them that the investigation continues with relentless vigor. Any information can be relayed to the authorities through an anonymous tip line.
