Former Illinois cop slimly escapes imprisonment despite having connections with far-reaching gambling cases.
Former Melrose Park officer John Amabile, 33, could have faced up to five years in prison, but the sentence turned into a six months detention in his residence.
US District Judge Martha Pacold on Thursday last week made her ruling in Chicago federal court. According to reports, Amabile pleaded guilty to all gambling business and swore never to put him in such an event.
Amabile allegedly ran an illegal sportsbook in 2018 and 2019. It mostly operated in Elmwood and Melrose Park in Chicago.
In the same case, Gregory Paloian, another alleged bookie was sentenced to two and a half years in prison by US District Judge Joan Lefkow.
The gambling scheme in Chicago involved a gambling website known as Unclemicksports.com. Ten suspects were arrested last year for a gambling conspiracy. They included Uncle Mick-DelGiudice and Mettawa Mayor Casey Urlacher.
