The first day of the year held a tragic end for a 15-year-old teenager who died after being stabbed during a quarrel in Laval, according to Laval police.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at Marc-Aurèle-Fortin Park in the Sainte-Rose district.
A fight between a group of young people escalated. The young boy was allegedly attacked with a stabbing weapon.
He was oblivious to the arrival of the police in the park. His death was declared later at the hospital.
The police later arrested a 16-year-old boy who fled the scene. He was slightly injured and taken to the hospital.
The suspect will be interviewed by investigators when he is discharged from the hospital.
“It is too early to know if it is connected to a street gang,” said Geneviève Major, spokesperson for the City of Laval Police Service.
It was the first murder to occur in Laval territory in 2020.
The Laval police are collecting as many evidence as possible in the park and around the scene of the tragedy.
Witnesses to the attack and residents of the neighborhood are being interviewed.
The victim and the suspect are not known to the authorities, confirms Geneviève Major.
The police invite potential witnesses to contact the InfoLine at 450-662-INFO.
