At least 23 individuals sustained injuries when two gondolas of a Ferris wheel ignited at a music festival near Leipzig in eastern Germany. The incident took place on Saturday night at the Highfield Festival, held by Stoermthaler Lake. According to police, the fire originated in one gondola and subsequently spread to an adjacent one.
Among the injured, four people suffered burns, while one person was injured due to a fall. Additional injuries were reported, including among first responders and at least four police officers, who were taken to a hospital for potential smoke inhalation. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
As of Sunday morning, police had yet to release detailed information on the condition of those injured or confirm the exact number of casualties. The Ferris wheel operator confirmed that no passengers were inside the gondola where the fire initially broke out.
