Most families are still not sure about their back-to-school plans, but about 300 school going kids in Alberta will have everything they needs to learn in September’s school session.
During the weekend, volunteers in Calgary and Edmonton working with Islamic Relief Canada Packed 300 backpacks with supplies for kids in Elementary school who come from low-income areas.
Last Sunday, volunteers thronged the C5 North East Hub, Edmonton to help pack calculators, face masks, hand sanitizers and pencils into brand new backpacks. The C5 facility is home to a number of social service agencies.
In Edmonton, the backpacks will be sent to the C5 North East hub, Somali Canadian Women and Children Association and the Africa Center to be distributed to kids in the city. The Center for Newcomers will distribute Calgary’s backpacks.
Volunteers said they hope this act will give bring some relief to families after what has been a difficult year for everyone.
