Enbridge Gas recently announced that around 140 customers near a truck stop in Tecumseh, Ontario are likely to endure an extended period without gas service due to damage to a nearby distribution system.
The mishap occurred when a road grader, while attempting to turn around in a parking lot, accidentally hit and caused damage to an above-ground gas distribution device, resulting in a leak. The leak, however, has since been contained, with local authorities declaring the area safe. Despite this, a significant amount of repairing work remains for the crew members.
To quote the comments made by Andrea Stass, Manager of External Communications for the utility, “We have chosen to temporarily halt operations at the station to accurately evaluate the extent of the damage and devise a comprehensive repair plan.”
Stass revealed that the affected customers are being informed about the situation through an automated phone message system. Plans are in place to deliver gas to these 140 customers from an alternate section of the distribution system, thereby aiming to restore the service by later the day.
As a part of the renewal process, the representatives of Enbridge Gas, identifiable by their official ID, must gain access to each of the impacted homes or businesses. This access is vital to safely relighting the natural gas appliances within.
Appreciating the patience shown by the affected customers, Stass reiterated the company’s commitment to ensuring the issue is resolved as quickly and safely as possible. She, however, acknowledged that the process might take a while to complete, concluding on a note of gratitude for the understanding demonstrated by those affected by the incident.
