In an ongoing trial, the ex-partner of the Newmarket woman, Maimuna Baldeh, implicated in an alleged fatal hit-and-run incident, was summoned to testify on Thursday. Serving as a key witness, he recounted her morning distress following the accident.
Baldeh faces charges of leaving the scene that caused fatality, in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on May 5, 2018. The tragedy led to the untimely and tragic death of a 27-year-old man, Dominik Adamek, in Springwater Township.
The witness, named only as Dave, claimed to have been Baldeh’s partner and coworker during the time both before and after the grim accident. He relayed the seemingly distressed call he received from Baldeh that fateful morning.
In recounting her distress, he stated, “She said something jumped in front of her car.” She informed Dave about a collision, but her anxiety and fear seemed to obscure the details.
Dave further illuminated that on that day, Baldeh was on route to her job at a Thornbury nursing home. Her shift was set to start early at 6 a.m. However, she never managed to clock in that day.
That evening, Dave found himself driving to Thornbury to retrieve Baldeh’s earnestly damaged Toyota. He found the right-side window shattered, a fractured yet intact windshield on the passenger’s side, a broken headlight and a loosened bumper. Despite this, Baldeh left the actual collision object a mystery, leading Dave to offer the guess that perhaps it was a deer.
Further testimony came from a body shop owner, a place where Baldeh would bring her car for fixes. He revealed documents of four repairs totaling around $15,500, including an approximately $2,300 bill for fixes made in the days immediatly following the crash.
The tenebrous case is set to continue the following Monday as the Crown is prepared to conclude its presentation of evidence. As the trial continues, it’s important to note that the allegations held against the accused, Baldeh, still hold to be proven in court.
