Former NFL player Sergio Brown has vanished under mysterious circumstances, while his mother Myrtle was discovered deceased near a creek in a Chicago suburb, say law enforcement officials.
The alarm was raised by relatives of the Browns after failing to establish contact with either of them. The Maywood Police Department responded swiftly, filing a missing person report and instigating an extensive search for the mother and son.
The search led to a chilling discovery. Myrtle Brown’s lifeless body was found near a creek located behind her residence. At 73 years old, the conclusive cause of death subsequent to the medical examination was due to numerous injuries from an assault. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office classified the death as a homicide.
Sergio Brown, now 35, is a noteworthy sports figure. A notable alumnus of Notre Dame, he started his professional football career with the New England Patriots in 2010 as an undrafted free agent. Brown played seven seasons in the NFL, also contributing to the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills.
The investigation into these tragic events is still active, with the Maywood police department appealing to the public for information. An anonymous tip line has been established for potential leads.
Efforts to contact Dennis Diaz, the lead detective on the case, have yielded no response. Attempts to reach out to Brown’s remaining family have also proven unfruitful.
A residential street in the Chicago suburb was cordoned off as law enforcement officials continued their investigations. Video footage from the scene captured the grim reality.
Neighbours expressed their shock at the grim turn of events. Reminiscing about Myrtle, her next-door neighbor, Carlos Cortez, said: “Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I’m hoping she’s in the right place and she’s with God. I never would’ve expected this in a million years.”
