Ex-NFL Player Sergio Brown Arrested, Faces Murder Charges in Mother’s Death

In a surprising turn of events, former National Football League player, Sergio Brown, has been apprehended and is in police custody for the prospective charge of first-degree murder concerning his mother’s death, police have confirmed.

The 35-year-old was arrested in San Diego upon his attempted re-entry to the United States from Mexico, in the statement offered by police from Maywood, Illinois. Brown is presently marking time pending his extradition to Maywood, a suburban region of Chicago, where the charges of murder will be formally lodged against him.

Mexico’s law enforcement had been privy to Brown’s location for at least as long as since September 19. When Illinois officers obtained the requisite arrest warrant linked to his mother’s untimely passing, their Mexican counterparts promptly deported Brown to the US.

Brown’s removal was not without commotion, indicated an anonymous source privy to the situation, narrating how the former NFL player had disrupted proceedings on the Mexico City to Tijuana flight. The plane’s captain was pushed to the verge of evicting him from the flight due to his disruptive behavior.

As per inmate records from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, Brown was in their custody as of Wednesday and was being detained on a felony fugitive arrest warrant. November 13 has been earmarked for his court hearing.

Under the American interstate extradition laws, a hearing is obligatory should a defendant rebuff the extradition. However, the final clearance for Brown’s transfer from California to Illinois lies in the hands of the court.

Shockingly, the body of his mother, Myrtle Brown, aged 73, was discovered in a creek behind her Maywood residence on the 16th of September. Family members had informed the police of her disappearance, as well as their inability to contact or locate Sergio Brown.

The cause of Myrtle’s death, as determined by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, was discerned to be assault-related injuries. Natalia Derevyanny, the spokesperson, confirmed that the cause of death was ruled a homicide.

Sergio Brown, remembered as a defensive back for Notre Dame, had embarked on his football career with the New England Patriots in 2010, as an undrafted free agent. His seven-seasons-long career spanned across the Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills.

Following the chilling discovery of his mother’s death, Brown’s brother, Nick Brown, made an appeal via social media, asking for assistance to track down his missing sibling.

A cryptic video purportedly showing Sergio Brown in tropical surroundings and ranting about “fake news” while alleging his mother was on vacation has been circulating on social media channels. The clip’s authenticity, however, remains unaudited by authorities.

Last week, Myrtle’s bereaved family in a statement urged authorities to expedite the investigation, contending the presence of enough evidence for an arrest. The family has implored various law enforcement agencies including the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for appropriate justice for their loved one.

Myrtle was remembered lovingly by her family and neighbors, earning words of praise for her effervescence, loving nature, and an unforgettable smile. Amid the tragic situation, uplifting accounts of Myrtle Brown’s cheerful disposition and her admirable ability to make everyone around her feel significant have emerged.

It must be noted that a previous version of this story erroneously stated Sergio Brown’s court hearing date. The actual date of the hearing has been scheduled for November 13.
