A former family doctor in Halifax is facing one count of alleged sexual assault in connection with incidents in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, between 2005 and 2007, as per a news release from Halifax Regional Police.
The 74-year-old doctor, Graeme Hamilton Bethune, has been charged following incidents in a home.
Regional police said Bethune was a family physician at the time of the happenings and was in a position of trust in relation to the victim, who was a patient.
The issue was reported to authorities in Nov. 2020.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia revoked Bethune’s medical licence in 2020 after he had an inappropriate relationship with a patient.
The former physician told the media that he was in the process of retiring in 2017. Bethune is expected to appear in provincial court sometime in the future.
