Fresh off her Emmys win, Jean Smart is set to take her comedy to a new audience as she kicks off “Saturday Night Live’s” landmark 50th season. NBC announced the lineup of hosts for the season, which premieres on September 28, with Smart joined by musical guest Jelly Roll. This will be Smart’s first time hosting “SNL” and Jelly Roll’s first performance on the show. Smart shared the news on Instagram, describing the opportunity as a “bucket list” item.
Following Smart’s debut, comedian Nate Bargatze will host the October 5 episode, accompanied by Coldplay, who will make their eighth appearance on the show. Bargatze’s previous hosting stint last October was marked by a popular sketch where he played George Washington.
Ariana Grande is set to host for a second time on October 12, with legendary Fleetwood Mac member Stevie Nicks as the musical guest. Grande, who stars in the upcoming “Wicked” film adaptation, has previously performed on “SNL” twice, while Nicks has not graced the stage since 1983.
“Beetlejuice” star Michael Keaton will bring his talents to the “SNL” stage on October 19, his fourth time hosting. Accompanying him as the musical guest will be Billie Eilish, also marking her fourth appearance on the show. This episode will be the last before Halloween, adding a festive flair to the lineup.
“SNL” alum John Mulaney will return to host for the sixth time on November 2, with breakout sensation Chappell Roan making her musical guest debut. Mulaney, a former writer for “SNL,” is credited with some of the show’s most memorable bits, including Bill Hader’s iconic Stefon character on “Weekend Update.”
The 50th season of “Saturday Night Live” has generated considerable buzz during its summer hiatus, with fans eagerly anticipating potential appearances by beloved alumni such as Maya Rudolph and Steve Martin. While Rudolph may reprise her role as Kamala Harris, Martin has declined calls to play the vice presidential candidate Tim Walz. The upcoming season promises a blend of veteran hosts and fresh faces, continuing the legacy of the iconic sketch comedy show.
