Footage depicting a significant theft at Conestoga Mall that took place on Tuesday has been shared by the regional police in Waterloo as they persistently search for the eight individuals implicated in the incident.

The surveillance video from the store shows eight individuals entering the almost vacant business premises, swiftly moving to snatch phones from the display tables.

Liveried in their escapade, they manage to clean out two of the three tables discernible within the camera’s frame before abruptly hastening out of the establishment. On their hasty exit, one individual is seen grabbing a tablet.

In their conversation with CTV News on Wednesday, a day after the theft occurred, it became clear that the police are deliberately refraining from labeling the incident as a robbery.

The constable, Brad Hickey, noted that a scenario must involve elements of violence or the use of weapons for it to be considered a robbery. The incident at Conestoga Mall involved eight male suspects entering the store, shoplifting and exiting without any injuries reported or weapons sighted at the scene, implying a lack of violence.

This incident makes it the second theft to take place within proximity of the mall in less than a week. The previous Wednesday saw the arrest of two teenagers in association with an alleged armed carjacking incident within the parking area of the mall.

In a rememberable heist that occurred in February, an armed robbery took place at a jewelry store housed within the mall.
