Edmonton Local Shot Dead by Police Amid Apartment Fire Chaos

A tragic incident unfolded on Friday night, claiming the life of an Edmonton local, shot by a city police officer. As the weekend approached, police were working together with firefighting services, striving to manage the traffic and the accruing crowd outside an apartment fire. This chaotic scenario evolved on 116 Avenue and 124 Street, just shy of the 10 p.m. hour.

In the midst of the commotion, officers were notified by local residents about a potential threat. A man, presumed armed with a gun, was reportedly lurking outside a home just a block away, at 116 Avenue and 123 Street. Following this troubling report, one officer advanced to the rear of the house mentioned by the locals.

It was there that the officer reportedly encountered the armed man. A confrontation ensued, ending with the man being shot by the officer. Despite immediate life-extinguishing preventative efforts made at the scene, the man unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

In the aftermath, police officers remained unscathed. A firearm, seemingly linked to the incident, was recovered at the location of the confrontation. An investigation into the tragic circumstances and the resulting deadly police intervention is currently underway by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
