An early morning blaze in South London saw fire crews called to the scene at 97 Bessemer Rd shortly after 8:15 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported while responses to the fire are ongoing.
Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade were swift on the scene, answering to alarming reports of a roof fire. District Chief Randy Evans disclosed that the fire’s epicentre was in a hopper located on the rooftop of a business establishment.
In a concerted effort to quell the flames and limit the spread of smoke, an aerial ladder was put in immediate use. This strategy allowed the brave firefighters to tackle the fire more effectively, both from the roof and inside the beleaguered building.
By quickly mobilising resources and maintaining strategic efficiency, the fire was primarily under control a little before the nine o’clock hour. Even so, fire crews vigilantly remain on site, ensuring the smouldering remnants pose no further danger to the remainder of the building or its surrounds.
In light of these developments, locals and passersby have been advised to avoid the area around Bessemer Rd until further notice. This measure is paramount to ensuring their safety while fire response efforts continue.
Again, the overall situation at Bessemer Rd appears to be under control, and thankfully, zero casualties have been reported in what could have potentially escalated into a severe fire disaster. We remain hopeful that there will be no further incidents as the courageous fire crews complete their work on the scene.
