Remember the excitement of new school supplies? That feeling of starting the year with endless possibilities? Once again this year the West Island Mission will be distributing back packs filled with school supplies to those in need in our community.
WIM is asking for $20 donations to help defray the cost of filling backpacks with school supplies for more than 460 children from 220 low-income families. On August 12, with the help of volunteers, these children will start the school year off on the right foot.
“These numbers are up significantly from last year,” West Island Mission director of operations Wendy Gariepy said. “Once again, we are looking to the community for help in raising the necessary funds to cover the cost.”
School supply lists are reviewed and though the backpack does not complete the entire list, most standard items are included. Highschool students can choose between a backpack or a $20 gift card.
Donations can be made online on the WIM special giving page for the event HERE, on their website www.wimmoi.org, or by mailing a check to West Island Mission – PO Box 46539, RPO boul. St. Jean, Pierrefonds, QC H9H 5G9.
For other possible options, please feel free to contact Wendy Gariepy at (514) 912-6813. Income tax receipts are available upon request for donations of $20 or more.
