West Islanders can be proud of one of their own, Gavin Fernandes of Dollard des Ormeaux for his contribution to the recent Golden Globe won by Big Little Lies. The show is directed by Montrealer Jean-Marc Vallée (JMV) starring Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley. Gavin Fernandes is a re-recording mixer and often works for JMV.

“We’re very proud of Jean-Marc, the producers, writers, and obviously actors/actresses for Big Little Lies. We played but a small part in what was always destined to be a great series,” Fernandes told West Island Blog in an interview. “Stay tuned as we have already started Sharp Objects with JMV and HBO. Amy Adams stars in what’s looking to be a very dark and interesting series…..even I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

Fernandes explained earlier this year in an interview “that when the film is in its final stages, our job is to take all the sounds that have been edited (dialog, music, sounds effects, footsteps, etc) and balance them. We work as a team of two people on Vallée’s projects, myself and Louis Gignac…the track count for audio can reach into the hundreds. We mix and balance the final product while following the intentions of the directors.”
