Captain of Dollard Des Ormeaux patrol service, Gerry Lauzon saw a need and filled it when he started posting safety tips to a local group’s Facebook page called West Island Watch. The response has been very positive from both the city and the followers.
Lauzon posts tips about safety on the West Island. To date tips include recent robbery scams, when to call 911, speeding and car thefts, all with conversational exchanges with followers.
“I heard of the group and wanted to see if i could provide straight answers from the source.” Lauzon told The Suburban. “I started after the report of theft in cars a few weeks ago, then I posted on West Island Watch FB group. It seems to reach a lot of people.”
According to Lauzon, though it is not the best way to reach residents, it can be effective.
“Although not the best channel,” Lauzon said, “it permits me to get information about what is going on out there from residents.”
Lauzon gets a thumbs up from the city of Dollard.
“I will consider a separate group, maybe later, time permitting.” he said. “I have had a great response from my bosses. The fact that citizens can count on reliable information is a plus.”
