A record breaking $50,000 was raised last week to benefit West Island Community Shares (WICS) at the annual West Island Wine, Beer and Spirits show.
“1 in 5 West Islanders needs the help of a community group every year. They’re struggling with hunger, cancer, substance abuse, bullying, mental illness and more. Half are children or youth,” said Caroline Tison, Executive Director, West Island Community Shares. “Thank you to Desjardins for partnering with us to ensure help is available to those in need in our community.”
General admission to more than 800 ticket holders went for $20 in advance and $25 at the door and awarded ticket holders three tastings from more than 20 SAQ vendors starting at 6 p.m. A VIP event with tickets going for $150,00 bought participants a special tasting from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm, canapés were graciously provided by 40 Westt, La Maison Verte, La Serenata, Le Surcouf and Casa Mare.
Bill Zacharkiw, wine critic for www.chacunsonvin.com and The Montreal Gazette, generously shared his knowledge and answered questions on all things wine-related.
The proceeds will help West Island Community Shares meet its goal of raising $1.2 million for 40 local charities by the end of its campaign on March 31st. With a last push before this years cut off date of March 31, West Island Community Shares is $151,000 away from reaching its goal of $1.2 million. The Tenaquip Foundation will match all donations received from individual donors.
