Dartmouth Stabbing: Man Faces Second-Degree Murder Charges Amid Ongoing Investigation

In a tragic turn of events in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Halifax law enforcement agencies have laid second-degree murder charges against a man following a brutal stabbing incident.

Official accounts from local police narrate how they were summoned to an altercation that took place at around 1:15 pm on Monday in the vicinity of the 200 block Portland Street. A duel between two individuals resulted in the police racing to intervene.


Upon arrival, the authorities found a 27-year-old male vitally wounded at the crime scene. The injuries sustained were a consequence of a stabbing, severe enough to be classified as life-threatening. Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital where he was rushed to.

In connection with the incident, a 33-year-old male was apprehended by police in the neighboring locale without complications.

Following the tragic event, an autopsy was undertaken by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. The procedure found the cause of death to be homicide. The victim of this unfortunate incident was later identified as Benjamin Ward Clattenburg.

Jamie Duckenfield currently faces charges of second-degree murder related to Clattenburg’s death and is slated to make an appearance at the Dartmouth provincial court on Tuesday.

Cst. Nicolas Gagnon, a representative from the Halifax Regional Police conveyed in a press briefing that the investigation proceeds and the incident does not appear to be random. Authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of justice, and the collection of additional evidence is ongoing.
