Cryptocurrency’s Secret Surge: Is the Next Financial Revolution Quietly Unfolding Before 2025?

Grayscale’s Managing Director of Research, Zach Pandl, anticipates significant advancements in the cryptocurrency sector by 2025, characterized by “dozens of smaller victories” rather than a few large-scale successes. Speaking at a recent webinar, Pandl highlighted increased interest in cryptocurrency from institutional investors, including pension and endowment funds, who have largely overlooked the industry in the past decade.

This shifting stance is partly due to expected comprehensive legislative changes from Congress, which could further encourage institutional adoption. Pandl noted that Bitcoin could potentially become a US reserve asset and speculated on its valuation reaching $500,000 by 2030, a prospect he discussed with Ric Edelman of the Digital Assets Council of Financial Professionals.

Highlighting the emerging interest, Pandl pointed out that some portfolio managers are already allocating up to 5% of their assets in cryptocurrency, albeit tentatively. He also foresees sovereign wealth funds outside the US increasing their crypto investments soon.

Pandl also emphasized the potential for Ethereum, describing it as a pivotal open-source software project that may see enhanced institutional adoption. Moreover, he indicated that decentralized finance, real-world assets, and artificial intelligence tokens could attract further institutional interest on the private fund side.

Pandl’s remarks come ahead of the anticipated inauguration of Donald Trump, whose administration is expected to adopt a pro-crypto stance, potentially influencing the industry’s trajectory.
