A chapter is closing amid tears and tunes for Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd, as the high-profile country music couple prepare to part ways. The reason? Regrettably, and very much in line with the refrain echoed in many a country song, they have come up against “irreconcilable differences”. The couple, married for five years since their union in March 2018, are separating.
On the second day of October, papers were filed in the Nashville circuit court. Morris herself is said to have signed the documents, confirming their separation had begun on this shared date. The resolution draws a curtain on a romance that began in the heartland of country music and produced a son – the three-year-old Hayes, who has made his home with his parents in Nashville since his birth.
The papers detailed the couple’s situation, emphasizing their inability to “live together successfully as husband and wife” due to persistent disagreements. As a further consign to this painful resolution, Morris has reportedly fulfilled her need to participate in a parenting seminar, a typical prerequisite in divorce cases.
No word has been given by representatives for Morris and Hurd in response to the news of the divorce filing.
The Texan-born Morris is considered a heavyweight contender on the country music scene, boasting platinum hits like “The Bones” and “My Church”. Her collaboration on the 2018 dance hit “The Middle” with DJ Zedd, paved the way for her to the pop mainstream, broadening her appeal beyond the genre’s confines. She took her prosperous career a step further by integrating with the country music supergroup, The Highwomen in 2019. However, of late, she expressed an intention to divert from the country music sphere, citing dissatisfactions with certain aspects of the industry.
Fellow pioneer of the country music field, Chicago-native Hurd, made his mark penning lyrics for musical heavy-hitters Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, and Blake Shelton. He notably scribed a song that topped the country radio charts in 2014, titled “Lonely Tonight,” sing by Shelton and featuring Ashley Monroe. As a part of Morris’s musical journey since her “Hero” album released under a major label in 2016, Hurd subsequently crafted his own debut solo album, “Pelago”, under the Sony Music Nashville banner in 2021. The album’s standout track was “Chasing After You”, a duet with Morris, marking an ironic and likely enduring testament to their shared past.
