If winning the Lieutenant Governor Medal this spring was not keeping 19 year old community activist Sarina Lalla busy enough her proposed fundraising project also won the West Island Community Shares (WICS), Y2 contest for young fundraisers on the West Island.
Lalla’s fundraising project, Color My Community Marathon was brought to life one week late on May 19, due to inclement weather. More than 175 runners and volunteers descended on Cégep Gérald-Godin.
In partnership with Y2- Youth Empowering Youth program and Cégep Gérald Godin, the 5k/3k walk or run took place at the main campus of the Cégep with all the proceeds going to West Island Community Shares. Throughout the run colored paint composed of baking powder and colouring is thrown on the runners. Runner are splattered with more and more colour as the event proceeds.
The participants warmed up before the race with a zumba class compliments of Mansfield Athletic Club Pointe-Claire and 94.7 Hits FM took care of the running tunes.
