Expanding its territory in the city of Las Vegas, Circa Sports is poised to assume operation of the race and sportsbook at the Silverton Casino Lodge on the threshold of the new year, January 1, 2024. This suburban Las Vegas locale, predominantly frequented by locals, currently falls under the management of Caesars Entertainment’s William Hill.
The shift in control was discussed in detail by Circa’s co-founder and CEO, Derek Stevens at a recent meeting with the Nevada Gaming Control Board, unveiling it as a long-stewing venture with Silverton. The satellite sportsbook, a result of extensive property renovation promises to be a worthy investment for Circa. Moreover, Stevens announced that this transition will also involve the absorption of the current staff into the fold as official Circa Sports employees.
A temporary sportsbook at Silverton is also on the cards for Circa, looking to launch on the same day the reins change hands. Timed perfectly to coincide with the much anticipated college football bowl games, this is an advance move, also promising a full opening just prior to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, a.k.a., March Madness. Indisputably, this hoop spectacle claims its place as one of the most bet-laden sports events in the U.S each year.
Las Vegas already boasts Circa sportsbooks at key hubs including its self-titled locale, The D, and the Golden Gate casinos, including a few others in downtown Vegas and Henderson. Its foray into Northern Nevada saw a collaboration with the Legends Bay Casino in Sparks in the previous year.
Joining these ranks will be the Silverton, under the proprietorship of Ed Roski Jr. Though trailing in the count of retail sportsbooks to that of Caesars/William Hill and MGM Resorts International, Circa boasts a solid clientele and is well-regarded by bettors across the board.
Besides being known for catering to sharp bettors, Circa has a few aces up its sleeves that have the potential to escalate its market share in Nevada. Annual NFL contests like Circa Million and Circa Survivor which pull in a large audience, require them to check into a land-based Circa sportsbook to register, positioning Circa at third in the race towards the largest Nevada sportsbook by market share.
The Silverton acquisition validates Circa’s steady-paced expansion strategy. Rather than foraying swiftly into states legalizing sports betting, the operator retains a focus on Nevada and states presenting a supportive regulatory and tax environment.
Looking to the future, Circa eyes potential opportunities for managing sportsbook operations in the numerous casinos scattered across Nevada, including cities like Las Vegas and Reno/Lake Tahoe. Nevertheless, exploring the casino landscape, both offline and online, opens up new avenues.
