Chris Rock Stars in BetMGM’s UK Launch Campaign

BetMGM, a formidable venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain, is following the lead of DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbook in its marketing strategy. Internationally acclaimed comedian and actor, Chris Rock, has been chosen to be the star of its latest advertising campaign.

Launching the latest wing of its operations in the United Kingdom, BetMGM has teamed up with Chris Rock to publicize the platform in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and of course, Ireland. Jamie Foxx, a well-established figure in the industry, has been the face of BetMGM in the United States but due to an undisclosed health issue, the reins have been handed over to Rock.

The sports betting platform, BetMGM, made its debut in the UK with its iCasino and online sportsbook on August 17. This marked the beginning of MGM’s goal to tap into international online gaming markets. As an ambassador, Rock is to promote BetMGM overseas, utilizing methods such as television commercials, billboard ads, and social media content.

In one of the initial 30-second advertisements, Rock is seen journeying in a golden speedboat, a MGM lion behind him, from the sparkling Bellagio Fountains to London’s Thames River and the Tower Bridge. Rock informs viewers, “We’re here in the UK to make every game an occasion.”

This campaign complies with the UK Gambling Commission’s Responsible Gambling Code for Socially Responsible Advertising by including responsible gaming messaging in each advert. Sticking to the code of conduct, the advertisements include references to helpful resources such as BeGambleAware.org and clearly feature an “18+” mark.

After making his on-screen transition, Rock states, “With tools that help you play safe, get ready for the golden era in sports and casino. BetMGM. It’s showtime.”

Rock now joins fellow comedian Kevin Hart in being the poster face for one of the leading US-based sportsbook and iGaming operators—BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, and FanDuel.

In contrast, FanDuel has used influencer partners to endorse its platform, while Caesars Sportsbook is promoted by actor and comedian JB Smoove, who some may recognize from “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.

To celebrate the launch of BetMGM UK, a free-to-play Premier League challenge titled “Golden Goals” is up and running. Those who get six correct predictions of Premier League scores in a week win £2 million.
