Chorale Philomela Singers is inviting lovers of choral music to celebrate the Rhythms of Life with them at their annual spring concerts in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and Pointe-Claire on May 4 and 5.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, this year’s lineup of songs is an eclectic, exciting mix of music reflecting the hope, warmth, new life and broad range of emotions that have forever been emblematic of spring. Across the centuries, artists, poets and composers have been inspired by the changing seasons. Chorale Philomela Singers have selected some real gems from that extensive musical repertoire, spanning multiple genres and some five hundred years.
“We are hard at work preparing songs from many different traditions, including spirituals, French folk, old English ballads and Broadway musicals, just to name a few,” said the choir’s director, Margo Keenan. “We hope that Montrealers of all ages will join us for what we are certain will be a joyous and moving program.”
Accompanying the choir and performing a selection of instrumental numbers will be the award-winning pianist and violinist Dr. Judy Hung. Also on the program will be Pierre Gallant, a former Royal Conservatory teacher and highly-respected and versatile composer and musician.
As it has done for several years now, the choir is pleased to donate a portion of the revenues from its upcoming concerts to West Island Citizen Advocacy (WICA). WICA is dedicated to improving the quality of life and defending the rights of people living with a handicapping condition or who are disadvantaged in the community by supporting them and matching them with competent volunteers.
