More than just nostalgia tinted through the screen of Instagram, beloved television personality Carrie Bickmore delighted her followers with an enchanting glimpse into her cherished past. The former Project host unveiled an unseen family photograph, a beautifully composed image from her childhood, alongside a meticulously recreated modern-day reflection.
The two images take center stage on her Instagram feed, each speaking the language of their respective eras. The childhood photograph, a stolen moment engraved in the mid-1980s, frames a five-year-old Bickmore standing against the backdrop of her adoring mother.
Reliving the memories etched in the photograph, Bickmore recently embarked on a nostalgic journey back to her roots. Celebrating her turns 70, she escorted her mother back to Colorado, where the cornerstone of their tender memories resided. Sharing the origins of this sentimental journey, Bickmore penned, “We lived together in Colorado during my fifth year, while Mum was on a teaching exchange. She’s often told me that it remained one of the best years of her life”.
Mirroring the past while embracing the present, a second photograph enters the frame, recreating the sentiment of the original. During their visit to America, Bickmore and her mother thoughtfully replicated the vintage snapshot, adorning themselves in 1980s inspired outfits. “For a bit of fun,” Bickmore explained, “we mimicked some of our treasured old photos – with a varied degree of success. Watch this space, there’s more in the pipeline.”
Adding another layer to the nostalgic journey, the post is laced with a vintage audio clip, a voice from the past—a young Bickmore, or as she playfully tags it “little American Carrie”, reading aloud with a distinguishable American accent. Although born in Adelaide, Bickmore’s early days were split between Perth and the US, lending tangible credibility to her accent.
Met with a sea of positive responses and spreading warmth through the comment section, admirers of Bickmore, including Daniel Johns—the lead singer of Silverchair, offered their heart emojis and words of appreciation.
