Brandon Police Officers Are Being Investigated By The Independent Investigation Unit In Manitoba

Brandon Police Service has received two complaints and has started investigations on two local police officers. One police officer has been accused of lying in court. The other has been suspected of an alleged assault during an arrest.

The complaints were received on Thursday. One day later, the Independent Investigation Unit was notified of the complaint and they have started investigating the case immediately. The complaint was about an officer’s testimony given at provincial court proceedings in January. Since perjury is an offence under The Police Services Act, the investigation unit has made a case priority.

The other case is about an assault. The officers responded to a call for service, arrested a man and took him to the Brandon Regional Health Centre. The complaint states that a man was assaulted during his arrest.

Although the man was not seriously injured, the IIU civilian director has decided that it’s in the public interest to investigate the assault.

Witnesses or other individuals who have information or video footage that could help the investigation are asked to contact the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
