‘Beyond the Looking Glass’ exhibition in Dorval

The City of Dorval is proud to present the exhibition Beyond the Looking Glass by photographer Catherine Rondeau, from January 19 to February 26, 2017 at the Peter B. Yeomans Cultural Centre (1401 Lakeshore Drive).

This free exhibition reflects the singular universe that is the child’s imagination, with a series of digital collages depicting children, as heroes of fantastic tales, who face their fears and live out their innermost desires.

In this photographic series, the artist takes pleasure in playing with places and elements in order to create dreamy pictures in which the borders of truth and falsehood blur. Inspired by the world of tales, these images explore what is played beyond the looking glass. Catherine Rondeau’s works are genuine gateways to the child’s psyche and are sensitive, sometimes humorous and sometimes tragic, but always representing the fabrications which are indispensable to a child’s development.

Catherine Rondeau is a photographer, video artist, and author. After attending the Course Destination monde in 1993-94, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University and a Master’s degree in Communication from the Université du Québec à Montréal. In 2011, she published Aux sources du merveilleux, une exploration de l’univers des contes at Les Presses de l’Université du Québec. Her works have since been the subject of several solo exhibitions in Montreal and elsewhere. The artist lives and works in Montreal.
