Field Recordings,Capitations (Exhibition)

Jim Holyoak and Matt Shane paint outdoors following a pictorial tradition that dates from the 18th century. Executed at Pender Island in British Columbia and in Quebec, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, India, and Austria, their paintings show a contemporary and mysterious fascination with the elements of Nature, renewing our experience of landscape. Outdoor sound recordings by Nick Kuepfer provide an acoustic immersion and complete the exhibition’s visual landscape. Artists: Jim Holyoak, Matt Shane and Nick Kuepfer

The Continuity of Movement… Take 2

Exhibition for kids
In the fall of 2016, students from Pointe-Claire elementary schools discovered 17 artworks from their city’s permanent collection when they visited The Continuity of Movement exhibition. Teachers joined in the process by adopting one of these artworks so that their students might experience it on a daily basis. Over a period of eight weeks, students became familiar with it, looked it over from every possible angle, and were inspired by it. The Continuity of Movement… Take 2 is the result of their daily contact with art.

Overture of the Arts 8 Year Anniversary Fundraiser

Join us at the Pierrefonds Cultural Centre as we celebrate 8 years of success and the arts! From 7:00PM to 10:00PM guests will snack on hors d’oeuvres, as they enjoy a music performance by Juno nominated R&B/ Soul artist, Patrick Lehman, as well as youth who participated in our Girls Unite program. Additionally, there will be a silent auction with tons of fantastic items for guests to bid on. All of the proceeds from the night will go towards funding our after school program A.S.A.P (After School Arts Program), which is a free program for high school students who have an interest in dance, music and visual arts.

14th annual Montreal Media Celebrity Hockey Marathon 

 Pierrefonds Sportsplexe will host the 14th Annual Media Celebrity Hockey Marathon,  hockey’s greatest and Montreal Media’s best celebrities will be battling it out for a good cause. Funds from this event will be donated to the Otis Grant and Friends Foundation. This year the organizers are requesting used hockey gear to donate to the Play It Forward Kids foundation helping needy kids play hockey. Asking players to bring any  pre owned unused gear they  have at home to our drop off bin the day of the event at the rink.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Island Spaghetti Dinner to Honour Volunteers

April Is National Poetry Month 

Come to the Dorval Library to celebrate poetry! Borrow a poetry book or channel your own inner poet by participating in the following activities

For teens and adults: Create a short poem on our magnetic board. Our favourite ones will be featured on the Library’s Facebook page.

For children: You are invited to submit poems for the annual poetry anthology created for the Library’s collection. The theme of this special 125th anniversary edition will be “Me, Me, Me!”, so write your story: poems about your family, your friends, your pet, your hobbies, your dreams… anything goes!

Date: The deadline to submit a poem is April 14.

The City of Dorval Treasures Exhibit

The City of Dorval is pleased to support local talent! As such, in order to mark its 125th anniversary, it is holding a retrospective exhibition of artworks acquired over the last decades. Each piece represents the City and has been created by a Dorval resident.

 In addition, the City has decided to organize a special contest for the occasion, inviting all members of the Dorval Artists Association to submit a work under the theme The Dorval Landscape. The winning artwork, evaluated by jury, will be acquired by the City and will be reproduced on a bookmark funded by the Friends of the Dorval Library. All artwork submitted for the contest will be showcased during the City of Dorval Treasures exhibition.

NOVA West Island and Lakeshore Association of Artists Present the 29th Exposition of Spring Art

Approximately 45 participating artists will display their original artwork on two floors. There will be framed and unframed paintings in a variety of mediums and styles, as well as drawings, pastels, textile art, and sculptures. Show hours are from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is free and staff as well as volunteers from NOVA West Island and artists from LAA will be accessible the entire weekend. Ann Kruzelecky and Helena Scheffer have each generously donated an original artwork, to be raffled off at the end.
