Wedding season is in full swing and congratulations to our future brides! We know that planning can be stressful so we reached out to Jimmy Chan, the wedding photographer of Pixelicious Montreal, to share his favorite locations for your engagement photos.
1) Montreal’s Old Port
The Old Port is a popular location due to its unique mix of architecture and green space. Don’t be surprised if you bump into other brides during the weekend so it’s best to visit during the week. The place can be extremely crowded during summer with the influx of tourists.
Quieter areas include the Montreal Science Centre and further back at Terrasses Bonsecours (near the river). Continue on St-Paul Street to uncover many cobblestoned streets along the way. Come back via de la Commune for more portraits at the park.
2) Montreal Botanical Garden / Espace de la Vie
Those who love nature will adore Montreal’s Botanical Garden. The park is incredibly spacious so try to target a few areas to avoid excessive walking. Due to its popularity, visit the park either early in the morning or an hour before closing to avoid the crowd.
The hidden gem is their collection of crabapple trees which bloom each spring into an explosion of colors. Catching the crabapples’ blossom requires flexibility in your schedule and some luck, as it depends on the weather forecast. The petals last about a week before they start to fall so make sure to plan ahead!
3) Îles-de-Boucherville National Park
If you prefer to stay within south shore, look no further than Boucherville’s National Park. A modest admission fee will grant you access to their huge park with plenty of photogenic backdrops.
One can easily spend the entire day here, the park offers a nice mix of trails, open areas and views along the river. Schedule your engagement session near sunset for best results.
4) Macdonald Farm / McGill Campus
On the other hand, those from the west island can visit the Macdonald Farm in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, which is part of McGill’s Campus. The area is very quiet during weekends and you will find spectacular colors here during autumn.
Keep exploring the area and you will eventually discover corn fields and various buildings that act as interesting backdrops.
5) La Fontaine Park and the Plateau
Urban Montrealers can also visit the famous Plateau to catch some of the best graffiti and street art. Plenty of action to be captured within the city, engagement pictures don’t have to be boring!
Not too far away, there’s also the beautiful La Fontaine park to catch a glimpse of nature and serenity. There’s plenty of parking inside the park, making it very accessible to visitors.
