Premier Danielle Smith drew a crowd of approximately 500 from Calgary’s Chinese community during a gathering at the Edgemont Community Centre. In her address, Smith highlighted the successes of her government, mentioning the updated Alberta Bill of Rights and reforms in health care and the economy. However, the format of the event did not allow for open questions from the audience or media, focusing instead on pre-screened inquiries managed by the UCP Calgary-Edgemont constituency association.
Some attendees expressed disappointment over the lack of direct interaction, hoping to discuss pressing matters such as affordability and electricity costs. Helen Hu, a member of the audience, specifically noted her desire for more engagement on these issues despite recognizing Smith’s governance efforts.
Premier Smith also emphasized her administration’s commitment to community safety, introducing a security grant aimed at protecting places of worship and cultural centers with security cameras. Additionally, she addressed the potential for Chinese medicine to play a more significant role in Alberta’s healthcare landscape, and shared her aspirations for a conservative shift in the federal government in 2025 to bolster Alberta’s economy through increased oil and gas production and exports.
