His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented the Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) to 43 recipients from various sectors across the country on Friday, December 11, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall. One of those recipients was Beaconsfield’s Frédéric Cassir.

Cassir was the driving force behind the national 10-cent donation from every McDonald’s Happy Meal sold across the country to support Ronald McDonald House, which reunites children undergoing medical treatment with their families under one roof. His initiative has brought comfort to sick children and has also given Canadians an opportunity to support this worthy cause each year on McHappy Day.
