The award-winning Beaconsfield High School Senior Jazz Band take regular music classes throughout the year and practice regularly at 7:45 a.m. each week. The practice has paid off. The devoted band jazzed it up last week at the 2018 Montreal International Jazz Festival, at the Rio Tinto main stage at the corner of Ste-Catherine and Jeanne-Mance Sts.
In April, 100 Beaconsfield High School students traveled to New York to compete in the Heritage Festival bringing home a record number of medals. Not only did BHS bring home gold and silver medals, two sisters Isabel and Jane Szollosy walked away with the Ovation Award for their outreach work with their charity Sparks of Hope. In 2017, the band won the gold in St. Bruno Jazz Fest des Jeunes. The Senior Jazz Band received a Silver award and the Junior Jazz Band received a Gold award at MusicFest Canada on May 18th in Toronto.
