The City of Pointe-Claire is pleased to invite residents to come meet the elite athletes from the Dive and Canoe clubs who participated in the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio. The meeting will take place on Monday, November 14, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre.
“We are proud to see members of our Dive and Canoe clubs representing Canada at the Games – and to see them excel as they did. These athletes are models for our young people and a source of inspiration for those who dream of achieving excellence,” says Mayor Trudeau.
Jennifer Abel, Meaghan Benfeito, Roseline Filion, Christine Gauthier and Vincent Riendeau will be at the event to meet young and old, sign autographs and join residents for a photo session.
From the Dive Club, Meaghan Benfeito won two bronze medals at the 10-metre platform: one solo and one at the synchronized event with Roseline Filion, who took sixth place at the 10-metre platform solo event. Jennifer Abel performed outstandingly at the 3-metre springboard synchronized and solo events, ending fourth in the world at the foot of the podium. Vincent Riendeau, participating in the Olympics for the first time, was 14th in the 10-metre platform semi-finals, a fine performance for this promising athlete.
From the Canoe Club, Christine Gauthier ranked fourth in the 200-metre kayak race. She is a previous five-time world champion.
“Pointe-Claire is proud of these athletes. I invite residents to come meet them on Monday, November 14, beginning at 5:30 at the Aquatic Centre,” concludes Mayor Trudeau.
The Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre is located at 60 Maywood Avenue.
