Despite last Sunday’s freezing rain, the Artists’ Circle of the West Island enjoyed a very successful vernissage to kick-off their 2018 Art Expo at Aikawa Sushi. Over 70 original artworks from 30 of its members are now displayed throughout the restaurant until June 30th. “There’s so much artistic talent right here in our own community,” explained Donna McGee, President of the Artists’ Circle. “Our exhibition is a wonderful occasion for members to share their art with the public. And it’s a great opportunity for art lovers to own original art at affordable prices. Thanks again to Aikawa Sushi for providing us with this amazing venue to showcase our talents!”
Artwork styles range from high realism to various types of abstraction and are represented in a variety of sizes and mediums including watercolour, acrylic, oil, pastel, and mixed media. At the front entrance, visitors can find out more about an artist by consulting the binder containing each artist’s bio. As well, a donation to West Island Community Shares will be made by the Artists’ Circle.
The Art Expo continues at Aikawa Sushi, situated at 55 Brunswick Blvd in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, until June 30th. For opening hours visit www.aikawa.ca.
The Artists’ Circle, started in 1981, welcomes artists from the West Island at all stages of development. Its express purpose is to promote artistic fellowship and provide a learning experience for local artists. Members come from a variety of backgrounds but all share a love for art and a desire to participate in the group’s monthly activities at the Pierrefonds Cultural Centre.
