Upon interviewing the couple, officers quickly identified the suspect and located him on the 30th floor of the hotel. Authorities confirmed that the armed robber was holed up in a guest room, though it remained unclear if his weapon was loaded. In the interest of safety, guests in adjacent rooms were evacuated.

Reno Police Department’s SWAT team and other specialized officers responded swiftly to the scene. They spent hours meticulously negotiating with the suspect. At about 8:30 a.m., the standoff ended when the suspect opened the door and exited the room without incident. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. The suspect was taken into custody, and his case has since been handed over to local prosecutors.

The situation created significant distress among hotel guests. Kevan Shaw, a hotel patron, told Nevada TV station KOLO that he and his girlfriend were awoken by commotion in the early hours of the morning. “About quarter to 3 a.m., my girlfriend and I heard yelling and screaming in the hallway. There was a guy trying to get into a room across from us. Then there was yelling and screaming about ‘I robbed him.’ Around a quarter after 3 a.m., we woke up to more banging, someone saying ‘let me in, let me in,'” Shaw recounted. Shaw and his girlfriend were evacuated from their room around 5:45 a.m.

After the suspect’s arrest, guests were permitted to return to their rooms. The police have yet to release the suspect’s identity and have not provided any explanation for his actions, including why he chose to barricade himself in the room or rob the initial victims. Authorities assured that no other guests were at risk and characterized the incident as isolated.
