Jamaican police are intensifying their search for an armed man who recently made off with over US$12.7K from a woman in a local casino. The brazen crime took place around 10 a.m. on Friday when the lone assailant confronted the victim, brandishing a firearm before forcibly escorting her into a nearby office.
Once inside, he proceeded to steal J$2,060,000 and a smartphone from the unfortunate woman, according to a report from The Gleaner, a prominent local news outlet. Immediately after the heist, the suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
The robbery occurred at an unnamed casino situated on Young Street in Spanish Town, within the St. Catherine parish. Authorities have not disclosed if the victim sustained any injuries during the ordeal. The investigation is being spearheaded by the St. Catherine North police department. Should the suspect be apprehended, charged, tried, and convicted, he could face a significant prison sentence.
On the same day, a separate incident at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh led to the arrest of a drunken man accused of assault. Christopher Okeefe, 39, of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, was detained on multiple charges including aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, evading arrest, resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness. The events unfolded around 9 p.m. when Okeefe reportedly initiated a fight on the casino’s gaming floor, striking someone with his belt amid the chaos, as reported by WPXI TV.
State troopers stationed at the casino moved to apprehend him, but Okeefe managed to flee into the casino’s parking garage. Troopers eventually located and detained him. While being transported to Allegheny County Jail, Okeefe allegedly assaulted a state trooper and made audible threats.
Upon arrival, he was booked on multiple charges before his case was handed over to local prosecutors. Details remain scarce regarding the catalyst for the initial altercation, and it is unclear if any other individuals involved in the fray face charges.
