The market for AI tokens is projected to reach a valuation of up to $60 billion by 2025, according to Gracy Chen, CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange Bitget. Despite this growth, AI tokens are expected to remain behind memecoins, which are predicted to experience a resurgence this year.
Currently, tokens associated with artificial intelligence agents have a market capitalization of approximately $15 billion and a daily trading volume around $875 million. The initial applications for AI include facilitating crypto transactions, enhancing trading, and managing wallets. Cryptocurrency exchanges are anticipated to implement AI agents to streamline operations and customer service.
However, Chen emphasizes that the technology is still evolving, necessitating human oversight. She advises investors to focus on tokens that provide practical solutions, such as those automating tasks or replacing manual programming.
In the final quarter of 2024, the market cap for AI agent tokens witnessed a dramatic increase of 222%, climbing from under $5 billion in October to over $15 billion by the year’s end. This surge followed the launch of the Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) coin on the Solana blockchain, which now dominates the AI sector with a 56.48% market share valued at $8.44 billion.
Experts predict AI agents will significantly impact Web3 in 2025, with cryptocurrency trading as one of the primary applications. J.D. Seraphine, CEO of Web3 AI developer Raiinmaker, expects AI agents to play a major role within decentralized communities.
As of December, approximately 10,000 AI agents operated in the Web3 space, earning millions from onchain activities. This number is projected to balloon to over one million by the end of 2025.
Nonetheless, despite a projected fourfold increase in market capitalization, AI agent tokens are expected to trail behind memecoins, which continue to capture significant attention in the crypto space. A study by CoinGecko highlighted that memecoins have garnered nearly a third of investor interest, overshadowing AI-related tokens.
