Out of the 813 municipalities affected in last month’s map, 30 have since been removed including Dollard Des Ormeaux which has no borders along the water and Pointe Claire. The adjusted flood map was released this week.
The Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation has confirmed that owners whose buildings are not located in the 20-year floodplain and were not flooded in 2017 or 2019 will not be subject to the special intervention zone in Pointe Claire.
“The flood-risk zone in Pointe-Claire identified in the draft provincial order covered 265 properties—none of which were flooded in 2017 or 2019, and none of which are located in the 20-year floodplain,” stated Pointe-Claire Mayor, John Belvedere.
More than 5,000 people participated in the province-wide consultation in early July. Citizens were upset as homes that have never been flooded were included in this original map issued on June 17, and could not get permits to do repairs to their homes.
