Quebecers can expect to pay close to double the price for their strawberries and other fruits and vegetables this summer. This year’s heatwaves and lack of substantial rain have had an impact on the summer crop of berries, coupled with a shortage of foreign workers have caused the price hike.
Prices varied by a few dollars on the island of Montreal, seeing the average cost for a flat of strawberries running about $43. Les Serres Vaudreuil in Vaudreuil-Dorion had the least expensive flat priced at $32.
Organic strawberries at the Les Jardins Mil’herbes at the Jean-Talon Market priced half a flat at $23. They were delicious!
