A Perennial Personality

Some people would say I’m a bit boring. I tend to agree. I’m not much of a daring, take big risks kinda person. I like to do the same things over and over and over again. Year after year, I do the same perennial things. Like little spiritual rituals.

You would think my existence could get boring. Not for me. I like the expected repetition. I like schedules, familiarity, and consistency. I like to know what I can expect.

Don’t get me wrong, I look forward to when my teaching schedule empties out as my writing courses come to an end.  But… then I crave the busy responsibilities that are gone. I miss the class time, my students, and especially the schedule.

My perennial personality has a lot to do with loyalty too. For example, I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for at least 20 years. Maybe more.  I have the same hair colorist for even longer. Same doctors too, for years! I like my peeps!

I’m not looking for anything better as I’m soooo content. Maybe it’s about contentment?

Perhaps it’s more about not wanting change and being happy with what’s familiar and comfortable.

Honestly, I’m baaaaad! Stubborn and difficult at times. I don’t like change. Even when a friend tries to convince me to eat different foods, I’m not interested. I will try some new foods, but rarely. I know what I like; I know what feels best for me to eat.  Actually, I’m fine just the way I feel.  As a true blue Capricorn, you’ve got a stubborn goat gal!

What about you? Do you like to try new things all the time? Do you like to live a life full of interesting experiences?  Do you try different foods, activities, and places?

Maybe this is the new older me speaking? Ya know, maybe it’s senior Sue getting settled into my boring elderly comfortable ways.

But… I do love travelling to interesting places and experiencing new things. I’m always on a quest for learning.  However, as soon as I get a dip of difference, I crave the comforts of home and a Montreal bagel!

What’s wrong with loving home, routine and schedule? Anything the matter with doing the same things every year like: teaching, skiing, cleaning the garden in the spring, planting flowers and vegetables in the summer, putting the garden to bed in the fall, decorating for Halloween and celebrating the holidays.  We are so lucky if we can do the stuff we love on a REPEAT DIAL!

If I can, I hope to do these things FOREVER! And… Repeat that please!

Think about it… How would you describe your personality? Perennial? Adventurous? Limitless? Quiet? Dynamic? Spontaneous? Crazy? Out-of-control?  Boring? Changing? Dependable? Indescribable? Exciting???

Let me know how you see your personality.  Share with us.

Thinking back to when I was younger, I’m still the same creature of habit.  Not big on adventure, but big on doing my ritual things.  Boring, das me!
