Police is Quebec say a 54-year-old woman has succumbed to gunshot injuries while a man is in their custody after an armed attack last Wednesday at shopping mall East of Montreal.

The attack occurred at the Galeries St-Hyacinthe mall located on Laframboise Boulevard. Police evacuated the premise after the 10 am attack, which led to the death of the woman.

She was rushed to the emergency room after an attack by the individual and later declared dead, police said.

The suspect took off in a vehicle leading police to initiate a chase that involved Longueil and Regie Intermunicipale de police Richelieu-Saint-Laurent officers, sergeant Audrey-Ann Bilodeau said.

Officer managed to stop the vehicle on Edward Street, Saint-Jacques -le-Mineur approximately 50 km south of Montreal.

A police briefing said the suspect is the car, 43, is a resident of Montréal. Police did not say whether the two were related in any way.
