A 23-year-old Montrealer was walking home after watching the Habs sweep the series against the Jets on Monday night game. Alex Wojakowski was scratched on the face, punched, shoved, and his Jets jersey ripped off by a group of attackers in the intersection of St. Catherine and St. Hubert streets.
Wojakowski says that it was about 11:30 p.m., and about seven men started harassing him verbally. To avoid them, he crossed the street, but they started yelling at him. Three men rushed him and punched him on the side of the head.
One of them grabbed his jersey and tried to rip it off, so Wojakowski decided, to give them the jersey. The man moved to Montreal from Winnipeg in 2019. He has also been a fan of Leafs but has never experienced such violence.
In downtown Montreal, it was total excitement than any other year after the Habs secured their semifinal spot. Thousands of fans gathered, cheered, and even attempted to tip over a Montreal police van.
Wojakowski spoke with Montreal police about the alleged assault. He hopes that the responsible people will face charges for their kind of behavior. Montreal police spokesperson said that investigations are ongoing, but no arrest has yet been made.
