The City of Pointe-Claire, is happy to acknowledge the brilliant performances of Canoe Club athletes at the provincial championships in August. The athletes’ outstanding success means that they now qualify for the Canadian competitions.

“Time after time, we’re proud to be represented by such talented and dedicated athletes,” says Mayor Trudeau. “It’s inspiring to see them perform in their sport, and it’s exciting to know they’ll represent Pointe-Claire throughout Canada.”

About 70 athletes, including both young people and adults, excelled and won first place at the Provincial Canoe-Kayak Championships in the M16, M17, M19, Open and Masters categories. Events took place at the Olympic Basin on August 5, 6, and 7. These results enabled forty-seven athletes ages 14 and up to qualify for the Canadian Championships to be held in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, from August 30 to September 3.

At the Sprint-Canoe Kayak Provincial Championships held at the Club nautique in Sherbooke on August 20 and 21, 78 Pointe-Claire athletes in the M15, M13, and M11 categories reached second place.

“These athletes spend an average of 15 hours a week on their discipline, depending on the season,” notes the mayor. “They’re examples of perseverance and commitment. And we also want to emphasize the support of the many volunteers and parents who make it possible to organize and hold these events.”

At the close of these two competitions, attended by over 600 athletes from 12 different clubs in Quebec, the Pointe-Claire Canoe Club ranked first.
