MAPAQ warns about smoked salmon sold in Saint-Léonard

Québec’s agriculture and food ministry is warning consumers about smoked salmon sold by Groupe MFS in Saint-Léonard because some packages do not carry the instruction to keep the product frozen until use.

The September 29 notice applies to 300-gram packages labelled “SMOKED ATLANTIC SALMON SLICES” and single-unit smoked salmon trimmings, for all lots whose label or packaging lacks the freezer instruction. The products were sold frozen only at Groupe MFS, 4741 Boulevard Couture in Montréal, in vacuum-packed gold cardboard or plastic trays covered with clear film.

The ministry says people should not consume the affected products unless they have remained frozen continuously since purchase. The operator is recalling the products as a precaution. MAPAQ classified the matter as a Class 1 risk and said no illness associated with the products had been reported to it when the warning was issued.

Consumers can compare the product name, package size and storage wording against the official notice before deciding what to do with a package.
