In a tragic turn of events, a 12-year-old girl was found stabbed to death in a Scarborough apartment on Tuesday evening, according to authorities. The dreadful incident transpired within an apartment complex close to the intersection of Dundalk Drive and Antrim Crescent, around six-thirty in the evening.
On Wednesday, law enforcement issued a communiqué revealing the unsightly discovery of the ill-fated girl in her residence, her life cruelly cut short by her injuries, and was pronounced deceased on arrival. Adding to the grim tale, a juvenile of undisclosed age was taken into custody and faces a second-degree murder charge.
Fervor around the case grew as the Ontario Premier, Doug Ford, expressed his sorrow and condolences regarding the saddening event. He proclaimed in an X (earlier Twitter) post on Wednesday that he was “profoundly moved and upset” by the girl’s demise. “There’s no comparison to the sorrow of losing a child. My heart goes out to her bereaved family and close ones,” Ford expressed in his comment.
At present, the particulars surrounding the incident are scant, with law enforcement tight-lipped on the details. Authorities had previously relayed that the accused youngster, now under arrest, was also found wounded at the crime scene and required hospital treatment. However, the juvenile was discharged from the hospital, and is currently detained.
Earlier on Wednesday, Detective Sergeant Brandon Price addressed media and public queries, stating, “Given the nascent stage of the investigation, it appears to be an isolated incident without ongoing threats that we can discern.”
He further urged local residents to share any information they might have, “Anyone in the vicinity who witnessed or heard anything unusual, we urge you to get in touch with the 41 Division or the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit. If you observed or heard something peculiar, do inform us, and we promise to make contact.”
At the time of reporting, authorities have yet to officially identify the deceased young victim.
