“This is a major culture change in the City that enhances the service offering to the public, in keeping with the 2015-2019 strategic plan,” points out Mayor Trudeau.

In concrete terms, inspectors’ role and responsibilities have been expanded, which will be even more powerful and economical from an organizational perspective. In addition to ensuring a constant presence and a regular patrol across the entire territory, they ensure compliance with the municipal regulations, especially for the aspects of urban planning and quality of life; they are also responsible for the security and peacefulness of parks, green spaces and public sites. The Inspection–Public Security Department is also responsible for implementing and periodically updating the Emergency Response Plan and will act as a preferred collaborator and intervenor with the Service de police de la Ville Montréal (SPVM), the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) as well as the ministries and organizations in charge of public protection and emergency preparedness in Pointe-Claire and on the island of Montreal. The new department will also oversee Pointe-Claire’s Volunteer Rescue Unit.

“This consolidation of related security services, compliance with municipal regulations and prevention helps combine our dedicated resources into a single location in order to increase efficiency. This way, the interventions across the entire territory are simplified and more effective because the staff is always on duty, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

“Public security and quality of life are central to our daily concerns in Pointe-Claire. This major organizational change is in keeping with our commitments and keeps our City at the forefront of the services provided to our entire community, within budget and in keeping with ongoing improvement,” concludes Mayor Trudeau.
