Neighbors for Neighbors Food Drive
Stephanie Koury and Rhonda Massad have joined forces with the help of the Beaconsfield Citizens Association to banish food insecurity on the West Island.
On November 19 we will be at Beaconsfield Recreation Center from 9 am to 2 pm to receive non-perishable items for those in need in our community. The event will take place at the Beaconsfield Recreation Center.
The “Neighbours for Neighbours Food Drive” is meant to include and unite everyone in our community to help those less fortunate. The drive will benefit two West Island Food Banks, On Rock, West Island Mission and West Island Assistance Fund. There is a growing need for food and the need is not well known. We want to join as many people in our community as we can and take pics of everyone bringing the food and share on social media to show a united front against this issue and create awareness of this hidden crisis. We would love for you to come out and be part of the movement. Please save the date and pass the word along if you can.
The biggest question so far has been “What do the food banks need?” We are making it easy on you. #747 Seven cans for seven days. More if you are able, of course.
What we need is: Peanut butter, canned tomatoes, peas, carrots, tuna, chick peas, beans, soups, breakfast bars, granola……
More than 2,000 families on the West Island visit food banks each month. #747

Desjardins first ever mobile banking bus to come to the West Island
In an effort to extend their services, Desjardins Group has converted a Novabus into a mobile bank. The idea is to make it easier to serve those who may not have easy access to regular banking services such as seniors homes.
During the upcoming Neighbours 4 Neighbours (N4N) Food Drive, on November 19, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Beaconsfield Recreation Center, Desjardins has agreed to station the bus for anyone who wishes to take a peek. Anyone who shows up to the bus with a non-perishable item will be entered into a contest to win $1,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice. The bus will be stationed in Dollard Des Ormeaux on November 20, as a continuation of the N4N Food Drive.
The bus that has been converted into a bank runs on diesel energy while en route but operates on a ten-hour battery while delivering services. Home base for the bus is in the Laurentians. During this pilot project, the unit will move within a three-hour drive from home base and return every night for needed maintenance.
